While serving eleven years as a Combat Photographer in the US Army Reserves, Tarina Reed developed her handheld techniques and creative composition in exceptionally diverse environments all over the world. During one assignment, Tarina captured the emotional devastation and destruction in the war torn country of Bosnia. In 2001, Tarina received her BFA in Cinematography from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. It was in these surroundings that her zest for visual storytelling was enhanced through the use of creative lighting. Tarina’s artistic endeavor was rewarded when she received a cinematography internship from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She was also selected amongst hundreds of applicants to attend the Sixth International Student DOP Workshop in Budapest, Hungry. Tarina’s keen eye has given her the opportunity to study under renowned cinematographers James Chressanthis, ASC, Laszlo Kovacs, ASC, and Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC. Tarina has wielded her camera from west coast to east coast on several award-winning documentaries. Split: A Divided America has been the official selection in over 20 festivals worldwide, winning best documentary feature at the First Take Film Festival, and winning an audience favorite on Hulu. The award-winning documentary was also featured on CNN. In her last six years in Los Angeles, Tarina has been Director of Photography on ten feature films. Her latest award-winning film, Solitary, was recently pick up for distribution, and has gain numerous accolades for first time director Greg Derochie. She has photographed noted film stars Steve Carell, Danny DeVito, Jason Alexander (Don't Give), Danny Glover (PNOK), and Michael Madison (Cosmic Radio). With technology constantly evolving, she works effortlessly between shooting 35mm film, 16mm film, and HD. Her last feature, a martial arts film entitled The Price of Success, was shot with both the RED camera and Cannon 7Ds. Tarina believes the image is most powerful when it evokes an emotion. As a cinematographer Tarina brings that emotion to the screen. |
